February and March bracelet sales benefit Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption. SA Greys is a Tucson-based, all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving forever homes for retired racing greyhounds in Southern Arizona. Since incorporation in 2012, they have placed hundreds of greyhounds in loving and qualified forever homes. Here is adopter Mike’s story:
When SA Greys brought Jed to meet me, he was quiet. What I liked immediately was that he ignored my two cockatiels. This was very important because their cages are open during the day so they can move about. Jed is very well-manned but can get fairly animated when someone comes into the house. He accepts his pats and pets and oohs and aahs before returning to his bed. He doesn’t bark at noises or tune into much of what is going on outside the house.
We take two long walks each day. When I grab his leash he breaks into his Greyhound Happy Dance and is ready to hit it. We generally walk 40 to 50 minutes each time. Jed does not pull hard or jerk violently against the leash, which I appreciate. Initially, he would want a walk every time he wanted to go out, but this was not feasible during hot months. Within two days I would say “out” and he would walk to the patio door to go into the backyard to do his business.
I did find out that Jed is an unrepentant food thief so I watch my grub accordingly. He has been very laid back when meeting other dogs. Jed and I get along fine. He spends most of the time lying around and I like to do the same – a win-win for me (and for him).
