Paws Without Borders Rescues Badly Injured Pup in Hermosillo

Posted in Fundraising

Our March-April fundraising partner is Paws Without Borders, a 501c3 dog rescue based in Tucson. They rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs throughout the desert southwest and northern Mexico (Sonora). They are completely volunteer based, which means that 100% of every donation goes straight into the care of their animals. Read about one of their rescues, Chappis:

Chappis was found hobbling the streets of Hermosillo, Mexico after being hit by a car. When our rescue partners discovered her, she had been dragging her injured leg behind her, still trying to move despite terrible pain. For a dog her size, the injuries are devastating. Her body has already endured far more trauma than it ever should have. The moment we saw her condition, we knew we had to say yes.

The damage to her leg was severe, and sadly it couldn’t be saved. To stop the pain and prevent infection from spreading, Chappis needed an amputation. While losing a leg is never easy, dogs are incredibly resilient, and three-legged pups often go on to live happy, active lives once their suffering is finally taken away. We knew that’s the life we wanted for her, and made the decision to go ahead with the amputation.

Her surgery was scheduled for the first week in March, and we used our savings to pay the bill. Donations towards her medical bills help us to make sure that we can cover the next emergency that crosses our path. Because the surgery was done in Mexico it was much less than the cost of doing it here. The surgery and follow-up care is expected to cost about $850. Every bracelet we sell, during the month of March and April will go towards paying off this bill and replenishing our medical fund for the next emergency.

“ROSE VIRIDIFLORA” is one of many lovely bracelets in our Etsy shop!

You can help Paws Without Borders save more dogs like Chappis by purchasing one of a kind Beading Divas bracelets. Cost per bracelet is $20. Bracelets make great gifts any time of year!
