Beading Divas November/December fundraising partner is Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary (EVRS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit equine rescue organization located in Amado, Arizona. EVRS’ mission is to rescue equines from neglect, abuse, abandonment, and slaughter. They rehabilitate, adopt, or provide a safe and loving sanctuary to equines who need a forever home. EVRS, an award-winning organization, provides unwanted horses, donkeys, and mules a forever home with all the food, love and care they need to live long, happy lives. Many have been adopted by families looking for their next best friend. But EVRS is always there for the horses who have graced their pastures.
Meet DIAMOND RIO! He’s a 22-year-old gelding who came to EVRS in 2009, after he was found severely wounded and near death in the desert by Arizona Livestock. It’s thought he may have been stolen from someone’s property and used as a packhorse in the illegal drug trade. During a conflict, he was caught in the crossfire and shot. He’s missing a large chunk of his upper right leg. Though his leg healed, his injuries are permanent, and he cannot be ridden. He shares a corral with Mystic, Angelina, and his best girl Maya. All three mares are former Premarin mares saved from slaughter. Diamond Rio’s favorite place in the world is standing just off Maya’s hip. They have a special bond, and he feels safe with her.
Diamond Rio gets two special bowls of softened pellets with added supplements every day in addition to alfalfa and Bermuda hay to keep his weight up. You can help EVRS rescue more equines like Diamond Rio by purchasing one-of-a-kind, handcrafted Beading Divas bracelets.
Cost per bracelet is $20. Bracelets make great gifts any time of year! The best selection is online via Etsy but in Tucson you can also buy bracelets at Fuchsia Spa in La Encantada Shopping Center, Silver Sea Jewelry in the historic 4th Avenue Shopping District (Silver Sea is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon-6pm.) and Gulliver and Friends Boutique in Tubac, Arizona (Open Thursday – Sunday 11am to 3pm).
