Maya, saved from Slaughter by Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary

Posted in Fundraising

Beading Divas November/December fundraising partner is Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary (EVRS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit equine rescue organization located in Amado, Arizona. EVRS’ mission is to rescue equines from neglect, abuse, abandonment, and slaughter. They rehabilitate, adopt, or provide a safe and loving sanctuary to equines who need a forever home. EVRS, an award-winning organization, provides unwanted horses, donkeys, and mules a forever home with all the food, love and care they need to live long, happy lives. Many have been adopted by families looking for their next best friend. But EVRS is always there for the horses who have graced their pastures.

Meet Maya, a 23-year-old gorgeous buckskin draft cross mare who was at risk of going to slaughter when a Premarin farm lost its contract with the pharmaceutical company. More than 1,000 PMU mares were at risk of going to slaughter until Equine Voices and several other rescue groups joined in to save them. In October 2007, thirty-two mares were transported from Manitoba, Canada, to Amado, Arizona, where they found safe, forever homes. Maya lives with her two close friends, Mystic and Angelina, and her best guy Diamond Rio. Maya and Diamond Rio share a special bond. His most favorite place in the world is standing just off Maya’s hip. To learn more about PMU mares, click here.
