For October, Beading Divas is excited to choose Tucson-based Moon & Stars Animal Rescue as their bracelet fundraising partner.
Meet the Wood Chipper Crew
During kitten season you would be amazed at the place a stray mom will use to keep her kittens safe. One night, Moon & Stars received a call about a litter of five very young babies found in a wood chipper… yes, a wood chipper.
A family had borrowed a wood chipper from a neighbor that had not been used in quite some time. They turned it on, went to put wood in and saw baby kittens moving down the belt. They immediately yelled at the person below who opened the hatch at the bottom to reach in and grab all five kittens.
Everyone was saved!
The kitties were only four days old, still had dried umbilical cords, were filthy but thankfully healthy (for the most part) and unharmed thanks to the quick thinking of a few individuals.
Two of the kittens were touch and go in the beginning, requiring around the clock feedings, cleanings and cuddles. It was difficult to tell who the mom was since the area had a colony of strays. This is another reason why it’s so important to TNR (trap/neuter/return) stray cats. With help from the community, the colony was TNR’d so this won’t happen again.
