Our May/June fundraising partner is Tucson Cold Wet Noses (TCWN), a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue and adoption organization. TCWN was founded by a group of local dog lovers whose goal is to rescue dogs from local shelters (PACC, MCACC, PCACC and The Arizona Humane Society) and find them their perfect homes through successful adoptions. The bulk of the dogs they rescue and later adopt out are senior dogs because they have a tougher time finding adoptive homes. Here’s their story about a hospice foster dog named Sharky:
Sharky came to us in 2022. He’d been attacked by another animal and was very shut down. Over a few weeks, he came out of his shell and started to trust his foster parents. One day, he had a large lump pop up on his side that we removed. A short time later, he had another one right next to the first site. We found out he had Valley Fever, and he was put on Fluconizole 3 times a day, along with multiple antibiotics. Sharky continues to have lumps pop up and then disappear, because of Valley Fever flares.
In the beginning, Sharky’s favorite toys were remotes and eye glasses. There was no safe place to hide either of them! His tastes have changed and he will now play with regular dog toys, thankfully. Sharky loves to cuddle, especially on days when he isn’t feeling his best. He has the biggest, most beautiful eyes too. Sharky is one of our Hospice Fosters and we will continue to care for him for the remainder of his life. Check out more of our hospice
