Cherished Tails Rescues “Miracle Boy” Romeo

Posted in Fundraising

Beading Divas January/February fundraising partner is Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) non-profit equine rescue organization located in Marana, Arizona. Cherished Tails rescues senior dogs (and a few cats) at high risk of euthanasia in shelters because of age or illness. They give sanctuary until these pets find a forever home, and hospice care for unadoptable animals. So far Cherished Tails has saved over 1000 pets. Meet one of their rescues, Romeo, and read his happy ending story:

Romeo came to us from Arizona Humane Society where he was described by shelter staff as a “grumpy old man”. Once we got him out of the shelter we discovered that he really was not “grumpy” at all, but he was in escalating pain. We took him to the vet and initially they thought Romeo was suffering from osteoarthritis or typical old age issues. Sadly, we soon discovered that it was something significantly more. A CT scan and MRI revealed a cervical/spinal fracture located between the C1 and C2 vertebrae that should have killed him. The vets believed that the injury was the result of significant trauma and likely human caused (i.e. abuse). Romeo’s spinal column was fractured into many pieces, and much to the amazement of his medical team, they estimated that he had lived with this injury for 6 months to a year. Unfortunately, the age of the injury limited options for treatment. Surgery would be very risky with no guarantee of success. Instead we opted for a temporary brace and decided that if that seemed to provide relief we would order a removable brace custom designed for him. Romeo was adopted a year ago and is doing spectacularly, with no further issues. He truly is our “miracle boy”, able to run and jump like a “normal” dog and we are so happy that he is living his best life!

“MASQUERADE” is sure to bring some joy to your day!
