July and August bracelet sales benefit Tucson Rescue Now (TRN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to adopting Senior Dogs into happy and loving homes. TRN brings senior dogs from local shelters to their adoption site at the La Encantada shopping center, 2905 E. Skyline Drive. For more information, visit http://tucsonrescuenow.org/. Here is the first heartwarming story about a pair of older dogs helped by TRN:
Sandi and Tara were two deeply bonded girls that lost their caregiver and ended up at a shelter. They were able to spend four days a week at Tucson Rescue Now and we noticed that Sandi was slowing significantly and not interested in even the yummiest of treats. Sadly, the shelter clinic discovered that her body was riddled with cancer so we immediately went into “fospice” mode for her, meaning that we were seeking a foster who could provide hospice for her. We posted Sandi and Tara’s story on our Facebook page late one night. By 6:30 the following morning, our director was contacted by a wonderful woman who previously took in a fospice case through TRN. She drove up from Sonoita, met both dogs and told us she wasn’t interest in fostering. She would be adopting them both and they would be with her for the remainder of their days. Through happy tears, we sent them with their new mom. Sandi had five really good days before the end crept in. During that time, Tara (now Tally) got to know the other dogs in her new pack. As Sandi slipped away just days after they arrived, Tally had new friends to help her grieve and include her in their adventures. We are forever grateful to this amazing lady who immediately opened her heart and home for these two sweet senior girls.
