For June Beading Divas are thrilled to have Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue as our fundraising partner. They are located Tucson and Phoenix.
The following story emphasizes why it is Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue’s mission to bring awareness to how detrimental backyard breeders can be. Puppies leave their pack too early and don’t get the proper vet care, and buyers are not properly screened. Backyard breeders will never stop, so it is your responsibility as consumers to only use ethical breeders or only rescue.
Meet Gabriel
Sold at 6 weeks by a backyard breeder, Gabriel was returned and then surrendered to Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue after his leg was tangled in a carpet string and “stopped working.” Gabriel had no use of his leg and had been walking on his carpus; the skin torn away, leaving just a bloody abrasion. His foot was actually completely broken. It’s suspected someone may have tried an at-home “amputation.”
Splinted, Gabriel got around well and started healing. However, his journey had ups and downs, as his foot healed, issues with his leg persisted, and he stayed with the rescue for months. He saw many different orthopedic specialists in his journey to walk normally. He came to all the rescue’s events, and became very social; a fan favorite. Ultra-cuddly, playful, and fun, Gabriel is so special. In April, almost 6 months after coming to Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue, Gabriel found a forever family that not only loved him, but would be committed to his care, whatever medical needs he may have. DHDR is grateful to have found the perfect forever family that can give Gabriel the life he deserves. For now, he will grow, and hope that his leg does not need future surgeries. If he does, his family is ready to make it happen.
