Our March-April fundraising partner is Paws Without Borders, a 501c3 dog rescue based in Tucson. They rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs throughout the desert southwest and northern Mexico (Sonora). They are completely volunteer based, which means that 100% of every donation goes straight into the care of their animals.
Fawn is a beautiful little pocket pitty who has such an exuberance for life! Her current Foster calls her Ms. Wiggle Butt because she’s just so happy to be alive and wiggles with joy every day. Fawn was relinquished to a Riverside, California shelter in early January. She had run into the street and was hit by a car; unfortunately her family could not afford to pay for the surgery she needed and turned her into the shelter. The shelter reached out to rescue partners for help and we were able to step up because generous donors agreed to fund her surgery. We quickly made a plan and transported her to Arizona, got her stable, and then took her to a wonderful orthopedic surgeon just over the Border in Nogales, Mexico. There, the doctor put a plate and several pins in her hip. Fawn has been on bed rest for the past 6 weeks, and she is healing beautifully! Her surgery and follow-up care has cost about $3,000.
Cost per bracelet is $20. Bracelets make great gifts any time of year! The best selection is online via Etsy but in Tucson you can also buy bracelets at Fuchsia Spa in La Encantada Shopping Center, Bark’n Berry Dog Ice Cream Parlor, and Silver Sea Jewelry in the historic 4th Avenue Shopping District (Silver Sea is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon-6pm.)
