Our May/June fundraising partner is Tucson Cold Wet Noses (TCWN), a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue and adoption organization. TCWN was founded by a group of local dog lovers whose goal is to rescue dogs from local shelters (PACC, MCACC, PCACC and The Arizona Humane Society) and find them their perfect homes through successful adoptions. The bulk of the dogs they rescue and later adopt out are senior dogs because they have a tougher time finding adoptive homes. Here’s their story about a special needs dog named Ziggy:
Ziggy came to us in 2023 at 12 weeks old and is one of our Hospice Fosters. He has neurological issues that he will never overcome. His brain didn’t fully develop, so he senses and feels things differently than other dogs. He also has no depth perception, which may be the reason he tries to bite a lot. He really wants to play with some of his foster siblings, but sometimes scares them away with his active and over zealous behavior.
Ziggy was recently diagnosed with a hygroma on his elbow, and he won’t let us put a padded brace on, so we need to make sure he is always laying on a nice thick bed or comforter. He takes CBD oil, special flower essence drops, and Metacam as needed for pain. He often runs into things, and likes to be touched on his terms. Ziggy can become overwhelmed very quickly and acts like a toddler at times. When he is relaxed, it is the best thing to see, especially if it’s a time he wants to lay on his foster parents’ laps. He has the cutest underbite too!
We will continue to take care of Ziggy throughout the remainder of his life. Check out more of our hospice
