Meet Five Cold Wet Noses Blind, Diabetic Dogs

Posted in Fundraising

Our May/June fundraising partner is Tucson Cold Wet Noses (TCWN), a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue and adoption organization. TCWN was founded by a group of local dog lovers whose goal is to rescue dogs from local shelters (PACC, MCACC, PCACC and The Arizona Humane Society) and find them their perfect homes through successful adoptions. The bulk of the dogs they rescue and later adopt out are senior dogs because they have a tougher time finding adoptive homes.

Lotus, Penny, Snickers, Zella and Phoebe are 5 of TCWN’s diabetic fosters. All are considered Hospice Fosters for various reasons: in addition to being diabetic, they are all blind.

Lotus has been with TCWN since 2020, loves to cuddle on a lap, needs prescription eye drops for her dry eyes and recently started taking Pimobendan, Enalapril and Lasix for her heart. Last year, Lotus was diagnosed with cancer, but it hasn’t grown.

Penny came to TCWN in 2023 after her human mom passed away. She is a happy girl with arthritis in her back legs, which she takes Metacam for. Penny loves to lay outside and soak in the sun.

Snickers came to TCWN last year and is a playful guy. He loves his belly and back scratched. He also has arthritis in his back and legs, and takes Metacam.

Zella came to TCWN earlier this year and has settled in nicely. She is very vocal at times, especially with one of her larger dog siblings. She has multiple issues, arthritis in her back, is missing a section of her lung, and takes Pimobendan and Enalapril for her heart. The vet said that every day Zella is here, is a blessing.

Phoebe just came to TCWN in April. She is a very quiet girl (unless you try to cut her nails!) and she loves breakfast and dinnertime! The rescue is waiting to see what her blood work says about her kidneys and liver. Phoebe is a climber and has found herself on chairs and couches already.

Between these 5 amazing dogs, they take 42 units of Novalin-N insulin daily and go through 10 needles a day. TCWN will continue to care for this group for the remainder of their lives.
