For the month of January, Beading Divas to the Rescue is selling bracelets for Rescue a Golden on Arizona (RAGofAZ)
RAGofAZ’s vet bill for 2012 was $132,936.58; they rescued/rehomed 167 dogs.
That is amazing!
When Rescue a Golden sees a dog on Craig’s List, they send a letter explaining that they cannot purchase a dog, but can make sure it goes to a good home. Sometimes people are very rude and say nasty things about not giving their dog to a rescue for free to have RAGofAZ to turn around and make a profit by charging an adoption fee.
Adoption fees don’t even come close to the cost of vetting a dog prior to adoption. Most of these dogs come in needing to be spayed/neutered; it’s rare to get a dog that’s up to date on vaccinations. So many are surrendered because they have severe illnesses or injuries resulting in thousands of dollars of vetting fees.
There you have it — the true story of pet rescue.
While you can donate any time to the Goldens, you only have until the end of January to buy some bracelets on their behalf. Bracelet sales have been slow this month; let’s rev it up.
