Starla was rescued by Operation Greyhound at 5 years of age from the Agua Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico. Her racing name was Cut Stone and she raced 120 races.
When she arrived at Operation Greyhound there were noticeable blue rings around her eyes. Operation Greyhound took her to the veterinarian to see if they could diagnose why she had this unusual coloring in her eyes. The vet recommended Starla see a specialist for he had never seen this before and an appointment was made right away.
The specialist diagnosed Starla with S.A.R.D.S (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration) meaning Starla was going blind. Starla has some eyesight and uses a prescribed eye medication to slow down the deterioration of her eye sight.
Without the love and concern from Operation Greyhound, Starla would by now be completely blind. Starla has been adopted into a loving home with other greyhounds and is doing extremely well thanks to Operation Greyhound’s quick actions in giving the very best to this sweet girl.
This is what greyhound adoption groups do or should be doing.
