Congratulations to Greyhound Support Transport — they are the lucky winners of the Bead Drive Contest drawing held last month.
During the month of February, all bracelets sales will be given to them. It’s a short month so you better start buying.
During Greyhound Support Transport’s first year –2009 — their goal was to place 200 dogs. They surpassed that with 250.
In 2010 their goal was to place 250 dogs. They placed nearly 400. And because they were able to place so many, a lot of those dogs were from farms and other racetracks in Florida not just in Miami.
The majority of dogs went out West to Oregon and Colorado to Greyhound Pet Adoptions Northwest, Homes 4 Hounds, and Oregon Greyhound Adoption; all three are located in Oregon. In Washington state dogs go to Greyhound Pets Inc and in Colorado, Almost Home for Hounds.
On the East coast, dogs go to Forever Home Greyhound Adoptions, Greyhound Friends of New Jersey, Fast Friends, and many others, although in small numbers, as that’s where the majority of other Florida retired racers go. Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions in Tampa also homes alot of dogs for GST.
As we go through the month, you’ll learn more about Greyhound Support Transport. Not an adoption group, they haul retired racing greyhounds out of Florida to non-racing states and Canada.
Please consider buying a bracelet or three as gifts to help the dogs get to be couch potatoes that much faster.
In Tucson, bracelets can be purchased at Silver Sea Jewelry & Gifts, 330 N. 4th Ave., or Dirty Dawgs dog wash, 2510 N. Campbell Ave.
They do important work. Happy to support them.
