I had no more puppies surgery.

Asavet Charities is a fairly recent 501c3 charity but already has covered a lot of ground. Tucson is fortunate to be their home base.

Beading Diva Karyn sat down with Clara Lee Arnold to learn more about what Asavet does and how – you the community – can help.

Karyn: Asavet has been really busy. How many cats and dogs did you alter at the 3-day MASH event this year?

Clara Lee: MASH saw just over 430 animals who were spayed or neutered at no cost in 2016. Additionally, Asavet Charities has altered another 300+ animals for Pima and Pinal County in October 2016.

K: Where have you taken the Asavet mobile to so far this year?

CL: We’ve visited several places in Pima and Pinal counties: Three Points, Picture Rocks, Casa Maria, Casa Grande and Sol Dog Kennels just to name a few. We’ve also worked with groups in Las Cruces, Roswell, and Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and dozens more locations are set to do clinics in the next few months.

K: How do you get the word out to each location?

CL: It’s been phenomenal how word has spread.  It seems like we’ve been able to already have a huge outreach by just word of mouth through rescue groups and colleagues.

K: Is the spay/neuter free?

CL: That depends on the arrangement Asavet has with the sponsor of the clinic. Most of our clinics have been free to the public, with individual rescues paying for services, or a sponsor paying for services.

Some groups have charged a greatly discounted fee to the public, then paid Asavet. Some clinics have been paid with a grant. We are flexible to help groups and communities get the services they need.

K: You say you need monetary donations for supplies — can you be more specific? What does the money pay for?

CL: Anything that is involved in a spay/neuter surgery…like anesthetics, pain meds, surgical gloves, sutures, scalpels, syringes, fluids, etc. Each animal uses a lot of supplies before their surgery is complete.

K: Can we take a peek at the mobile unit?

CL: Yes! On Tuesday November 22 from 3 to 5 pm, the public is invited to the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona to take a tour of the mobile vet unit, sip & nosh  and buy Beading Divas bracelets. Come down and check it out! The CFSAZ is located at 2250 E. Broadway between Campbell & Tucson Blvd. We’re excited to show the community what we do. And if your business or organization would like to sponsor a spay/neuter day — contact Asavet at [email protected]

K: And if you can’t make that event, you can find bracelets at these venues around town or online. One of a kind bracelets make great gifts and help an amazing cause. Buy bracelets here:
