Beading Divas to the Rescue
ROAR stray pups

For May, Beading Divas to the Rescue is excited to be fundraising for ROAR (Rescue Operations for Animals of the Reservation). ROAR won the random drawing from Bead Drive 2015.

Eevee was originally a stray female who needed serious intervention by a professional. Every time someone tried to approach her, she would disappear. She eventually returned with a litter of five puppies.

Since Eevee was so fearful of people, rescuers had to be very careful to respect her space while getting her the help she and her puppies needed. They found the puppies first and then returned for their mother. With determination, Eevee and her puppies were finally reunited.

Sadly, one of the pups died the following day. It was apparent Eevee and the remaining four pups were infested with ticks. Medical attention for mom and babies was an important next step.

After telling this story, Dr. Holgate lamented, “The strays challenge us; it’s never what you prepare for, especially with the pups.” Fortunately, this dedicated doctor continues to persevere.

A story like this is why ROAR created our Pet Promise service to help with spay and neuter services. Reducing the dog and cat population is an important step to improving the health and welfare for animals on Native American reservations.

ROAR provides supplies and subsidies to empower care giving and rescue of animals that are abused, neglected, injured, diseased, or abandoned.
