Beads Needed to Benefit Animal Charities

$60,000 raised by selling $20 bracelets to help the animal rescues

Tucson—Beading Divas to the Rescue have raised more than $60,000 for animal charities since 2009 by selling one twenty dollar bracelet at a time. The Divas depend on the public’s gift of beads in order to continue making and selling handmade bracelets where all sales go to a different 501(c) (3) animal charity every month. So far, money has been donated to 30 different organizations (some more than once) in five states.

“It was an honor to be a recipient of the Beading Divas fundraising efforts. We were amazed and delighted at how much money they were able to donate to our cause which really helps with all the costs of caring for our foster animals, especially with medical costs,” said Signe Razzi, president of Tucson Cold Wet Noses. “Plus the bracelets are beautiful and so fun.”

In order to continue the mission of making money for animal charities, the Divas need your help to acquire more beads. Bead Drive 2013 launched January 18 and continues through March 8. To provide beads, please include your name, phone number, and the name of a 501 c3 animal charity.

On Saturday March 18, a random drawing will be held at Silver Sea Jewelry located at 330 N. 4th Avenue; the winning charity will benefit from April bracelet sales. Other small prizes will also be awarded. In 2011, Greyhound Support Transport, Florida, won the random drawing.

Beading Divas to the Rescue began after paying off the $14,300 veterinary bill for Lizzie Mead whose greyhounds were injured in a hit-and-run accident in October 2008. Mead wanted to give back to the community that helped her. With leftover beads, the women continued to make and sell bracelets.
