January 2012: New Hope Cattle Dogs

Meet Lady! Lady was one of the special needs seniors. She came from Oklahoma where a good Samaritan rescued her from a busy I-10 bridge. She was frozen in place with fear because she is blind and didn’t know where to go to avoid traffic or the edge.

New Hope Cattle Dogs was contacted and a rescue was in order.

When she came she was still scared, in pain and had a huge mat of hair on her back, the first mat we have ever seen on a cattle dog. It took a lot of shampooing and brushing but she started looking like normal cattle dogs eventually.

Lady was only 6 years old and had severe cataracts to the point of total blindness as well as a leg injury. She rapidly learned to trust the rescue group to be her eyes and within a couple of weeks was going outside to potty on her own, limping along at her speed. She received pain meds, a brace for her front foot and hoped for a wonderful adopter although New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue was prepared to keep her for the rest of her life if it came down to it. Fortunately, an angel was smiling down on Lady.

That adopter showed up as a family in Albuquerque, NM. They were looking for a special needs dog that they could give a forever home to. They saw Lady on the website and drove to Tucson to meet her. It was love at first sight. Within weeks at Lady’s new home, she was running around without the brace and investigating the forest in the Sandia Mountains. She loves the snow, her walks with her mom and is living a wonderful life which she so deserves.

Lady was an unexpected success because the rescue didn’t think that anyone was going to want to adopt such a special needs dog. But now she has a new leash on life and is living it with all she’s got!

The Beading Divas love happy endings!

Lucky Lady! She looks very sweet and I’m glad she found her forever home.

New Hope Cattle Dogs have found over 900 forever homes for Cattle Dogs if memory serves me. A good cause indeed.
